There are a couple of songs that don’t fit into this mix very well. I wish I had previewed the songs a little more closely before this mix. Specifically, Pumping It Up is really weird in this mix.

This mix sounds is so sweet. It feels like 2:45 am in a warehouse in the industrial section of town. Just a room with a couple of lights, a crowd of sweaty people getting down, and Jay Def on the tables. No big announcer, no big light show, no spectacle. Just good beats and househeads who know what time it is.

As I was listening to this, I could almost smell the tangy scent of neon paints used to paint a lotus flower on a dark sheet. Then, I remembered a certain black light with a Flower Power sticker on it and how dope it would be to have that.

This isn’t a big mega club mix with huge breaks and a $30 cover. This is a party where you better know somebody. This is the kind of groove that the party goers try to explain to their coworkers, who just don’t get it.

I can see the speaker groovers with the heads in the JBL stacks and that one dude making eye contact and just giving that knowing nod. Yeah, that’s this mix right here.

And that’s the way house music is supposed to be.
